South Indian Film Artistes' Association



2001The South Indian Film Artistes' Association (SIFAA), also known as the Nadigar Sangam, is an Indian
 organization consisting of film actors and actresses from the Tamil film industry inTamil Nadu, India. Formed in
 1952, the group has organized several events due industry-related issues and, more recently, social issues. 
The current president of the association is actor R. Sarathkumar.
Actors' Day
On October 1, 2001, SIFAA president actor Vijayakanth declared that October 1, which is actor 
Sivaji Ganesan's birthday, be observed as Actors' Day in Tamil Nadu.
During May 2008, president R. Sarathkumar organized a one-day hunger strike opposing the
abuse of Tamils in the state ofKarnataka.
Sri Lankan civil-war hunger strike
In September 2008, Sarathkumar organized a one-day hunger strike, protesting the deaths of several
 Tamils in Sri Lanka and the ongoing Sri Lankan Civil War.
On October 7, 2009, Sarathkumar immediately launched a rally against the Tamil language
 newspaper Dina Malar for publishing a news article claiming Indian pornographic
 actress Bhuvaneshwari had exposed to police several Tamil actresses were involved in illegal sex-work. 
The actresses listed on the newspaper, with their photos, were Namitha, Seetha, Nalini, Anju, Shakeela, 
Manjula Vijayakumar and Sripriya. This was later found to be false news and the SIFAA had petitioned to
 Chennai Police to arrest the newspaper's editor Lenin. Lenin was later arrested in response to the SIFAA's
 petition and demonstration.[1]President R. Sarathkumar and his wife Raadhika Sarathkumar, who is also the 
co-producer of the yet-to-be released film Jaggubhai, held a press conference on January 4, condemning the
 acts of pirated films being uploaded on the Internet and sales of pirated DVDs. It was discovered that an unedited full-length 
version of Jaggubhai, starring Sarathkumar and directed by
 K. S. Ravikumar had been uploaded online.[2]
